The city of Bradford was settled in 1823. By 1879, Bradford was chartered as a city as it boomed during the Pennsylvania oil rush. During Bradford's oil boom, the Bradford & Foster Brook Railway was built. This railway is though to have been one of the very first monorails in the country. During the 1930s, the Taylor Brother Aircraft Corporation built an airplane named the Taylor Club in Bradford, PA. This plane was later redesigned and became the world-famous Piper Cub. Today, Bradford is home to Zippo, the creator of collectible lights and knives.
